Happy Birthday BK! My brother was born on a lucky day 38 years ago – so crazy to think he’s almost 40. Aging is so bitter sweet as we gain knowledge and dispose of our youth. I have been contemplating age ever since I had turned 30 and have been trying to come to terms with death. It may sound morbid, but it can happen at any time. We all believe we are immortal, but catastrophe can hit no matter how incredibly healthy or successful you are. And it wouldn’t matter how I felt about it once I had passed, so why even bother contemplating mortality? I guess to make coping with immense loss easier. Maybe it never gets easier, only more familiar. There are countries where you might know someone who died every day. When you’re surrounded by death it seems more natural. I’m not saying this to minimize people’s experience with death; I’m merely talking it out in my own head right now. I never anticipated this blog turning into something philosophical or some dreary narrative, but health can take form in so many other ways besides physical fitness and capability. How do I even determine my mental aptitude/fitness? Who am I to say I have perfect mental health (which by the way I am certain I don’t)? Is everything not relative? But there are absolute truths as well; there are absolute truths which I know and understand to be fact, but others would alternatively claim that I am wrong. How is this possible? We live in a world where nothing is certain even when they are. An elixir for self-destruction.
You could call today a “self-care” day I suppose. We only hold week day passes, so no snowboarding today… it’s for the better though because we need a break on the weekends. Cory took a nap today while I did the dishes. Dishes take extra long in a sink the size of a 9″x9″ baking pan. We went to the gym so that Cory could work out and I could sauna. Followed by an incredibly long hot shower. Weather this chilling really tests my circulation. I can’t believe the Chiefs-Dolphins game wasn’t pushed up today or postponed. Running, breathing, getting hit in -5 degree weather? No thanks. Can only imagine what Jason is thinking, knowing Kelce dates TSwift and Mahomes just dominating every game… his helmet shattered today probably because it was the FOURTH coldest game played in NFL history. The roads in Jackson are so frozen it’s tough to drive on old tires, but we make it work. What a week it’s been. My castor oil pack should have arrived at the p.o. box by now, so maybe I’ll check on that tomorrow.
More to come!
